Scorched Earth

There are however some cool new(ish) elements in this book that is worth mentioning though. First of all, as the book blurb states, Cain gets really, really pissed of in this book. I was afraid when I first saw the title, Scorched Earth, that it would indicate that it was the aliens turn to strike back in this book. It is nothing of the kind. Scorched Earth refers to what Cain & Co leaves behind them as they embark on a alien bashing rampage of apocalyptic dimensions even for this book series.
Naturally the timing is perfect since the Juireans have just built up enough courage, not to mention military force, to attempt to invade the Union and Earth…again. It is not much of a spoiler to say that the Juireans experience a few minor hick ups in the implementation of their plan.
To help Cain with his mission of dealing pain to any alien that he comes across (with a few exceptions) he gets his hands on quite a bit of experimental hardware as well as an alien relic of extraordinary power. Towards the end there are a few surprises that adds to the entertainment popping up as well although I will not go into details since it would be too much of a spoiler.
As usual with the books in this series it is a light and quick read but quite entertaining and perfect when you do might be a wee bit tired and do not feel like investing in a more complex story.
