This was undeniably one of the shorter and more quickly read books that I have read. It’s not a bad book but it’s definitely for the younger audience. The story is very fast paced but that’s partly because it’s quite naive and somewhat childish. A 14 year old kid meets aliens, makes friends and obtains amazing new technology at a stunning speed. And he always gets it right and clobbers the bad guys at the same time. Not to mention that he needs a few (and I mean a
few) months of training to become a space fighter ace that can win against “10 out of 10 human pilots”. A bit over the top I would say.
It felt more like I was reading an old-fashioned boy-hero comic in book-form. It’s probably a nice read for younger people but I think adults will find it somewhat lacking. I did at least. I was pondering whether to give it 2 or 3 Goodread’s stars but two stars is supposed to be “it was ok” and that’s how I feel so that’s what it got.
