PG's Books

This is a good book. It’s well written, especially the combat parts which is as one would expect from Larry Correia. However, I have to say that I enjoy his Monster Hunter International series better.

I’m not really a fan of alternate reality stories to begin with so it’s perhaps not surprising that this book series do not please me as much as Correia’s other book series do. It is also much more conspiracies and human foul play in it than in the others which is also something that is not high on my wish list. But then, I do like Larry Correia’s writing in general so this book was a must read for me.

This one is definitely more on the weird plane than his other book series. Well, hunting monsters as in the MHI series is rather weird as well of course but mix that with alternate reality, lots of magic, loads and loads of conspiracies and you get something quite weird.

I have to say that some parts of this book felt, I will not say boring, but at least somewhat slow. I would also say that the first book was in the series more refreshing to read. I think that the main character wasn’t as present as I would have hoped. Sure, the other characters are interesting as well but I just felt it was too chopped up between them. The introduction of the Iron Guard into the team (in a very loose sense of course) was a cool twist though.

I will probably read the next one in the series as well. If nothing else to know how the story progresses. If you ‘re a fan of alternate reality, magic, conspiracies and the 30’s I would recommend this book without hesitation. It’s a good book despite my personal reservations.
